Our Ministers


Dr. John Adams was born in Bryan, TX and raised in Shelby, NC, where he attended Lily Memorial Baptist. John is a graduate of Furman University, Southeastern Seminary, and Baylor University. He enjoys spending time with family, biking, and reading. John's passion is to invite everyone to the banquet table of Christ.

Minister of Music
Rev. Rick Baumgarner was born in Seneca and raised in Walhalla, SC, where he attended College Street Baptist. Rick is a graduate of Furman University and Southern Seminary. He enjoys spending time with family at Lake Keowee and watching his boys play ball. Rick's prayer is that God would use him to help others discover the joy of singing the Lord's praise as they serve Him.

Minister of Students
Rev. David Hughes is from Pickens, S.C. where he attended Pickens First Baptist and later became a member of Easley First Baptist. David is a graduate from Furman University. David enjoys learning, travel, fishing, sports, and watching Furman athletics. David desires to connect students to God’s word and watch it inspire them to be the leaders of the next generation in the church and the world.

Minister of Pastoral Support
Dr. James M. Pitts previously served as university chaplain [retired] and professor of religion emeritus, Furman University. A native of Washington, DC, Jim is a graduate of Furman University, Southeastern Seminary, and Southern Seminary. An experienced pastoral counselor, he has worked in both congregational and hospital settings. His professional expertise includes crisis counseling, substance abuse intervention, and career guidance for persons in ministry. He serves as the editor of NextSunday Worship and is the principal photographer and editor of www.NextSundayGallery.com, an educational resource with a comprehensive collection of high quality photos illustrating the geography and archaeology of the Biblical world. Jim and his wife Nancy are the parents have two adult sons and two daughters-in-law: Stewart (deceased) and his wife Kelley, and Jonathan and his wife Jackie. They are the proud grandparents of three grandsons, Will, Jon Walker and Colton, and a granddaughter, Lilli.
