Day 5

The Sheraton breakfast this morning in San Antonio was delicious! Finally, we had a later start than normal. The extra time gave kids a chance to rest a little longer before getting started for the day.

We gathered in the lobby of the hotel at 8:30 and sang a beautiful song for those finishing breakfast. Even for 8:30 in the morning, they sounded wonderful. David led us on our walk from the hotel to the San Fernando Cathedral. After taking a couple of pictures of the group, the choir sang six of our pieces. We sang everything a cappella and it sounded fantastic! What a beautiful place to worship and sing. One worshiper was moved to tears as he prayed.

We decided to walk from the cathedral to the Historic Market Square. We gave the choir about an hour to shop. Up to this point, they have had very little opportunity to purchase anything.

During our shopping at the Market, we went into a well-known restaurant in San Antonio, Mi Tierra. While there we sang two pieces, One of which was in Spanish. I asked the wait staff and cashiers to tell us honestly if they could understand our Spanish. They all said they understood us completely. In fact, the owner of the restaurant requested permission to use our performance on their website.

Scott, our bus driver, picked us up at the market in carried us to the Alamo where we met our step-on guide. She accompanied us outside the city to one of the most well preserved Spanish missions: San Jose mission. We spent a couple of hours with her sharing information about the development of the missions in Texas territory.

We dropped her off back at the Alamo and spent about an hour there,in the Alamo. We had purchased wands which us to tour the site at our own pace. Although it was hot, the choir members seemed to enjoy learning the history of the Battle of the Alamo in 1836.

We released our driver for the rest of the day. We walked from the Alamo back to our hotel and had just a few minutes before we met again to go to the River walk to eat supper at Casa Rio. We had our own private dining room and 4 waiters who served us. We had a lot of fun. It was a very relaxed time, with no rushing about for a while. Again, we sang for the wait staff. We sang our Spanish piece and got an A+ from all of those who heard it.

We decided to spring for a river cruise through downtown San Antonio. It just seemed like something we needed to do after supper. We put the adults on one boat with other tourist and let all of our kids get together on the other boat. They sang their way through Riverwalk and entertained their pilot.

Anna Garland led our group devotion tonight when we returned to the hotel. She did a great job and reminisced about some of the past choir tours we have shared together. She talked about how you have to rely on the Holy Spirit to be ready for what may come your way. She did a very good job. It has been a great day and even though we are tired, we believe God has used the choir significantly today. Tomorrow morning we leave San Antonio and head to Austin and College Station.
