Day 1

A large crowd of parents, grandparents, and friends met 6:15 this morning to help us pack our blue Ionosphere bus and see us off.

Ellison Batson greeted the crowd and gave a summary of our day. Bryan Pickler gave a snap shot of our devotion for the day and challenged us not only to called a Christian, but to live as a Christian as well. After saying our creed together, we loaded the bus and pulled out at 6:55 a.m.

Shortly after leaving the church, we were entertained by a surprise video from “Marshawilla” Robertson. Even though she didn’t make the trip this year, her heart was “On the Road Again.” Take a look at her video on today’s photos. Marsha wrote our devotions for the week. So, in a very real way, she is with us all the to San Antonio and back.

Justin was the driver who picked us up at EFBC this morning. We found out that Justin is also a DJ on FM 98.1, Hot 98. He drove us to Braselton, GA where we met our driver for the week: Scott Wilson.

Today at lunch our group sang our new blessing at Chick-fil-A in Montgomery Alabama.. The choir did a great job and folks loved it. We ran into members of First Baptist Church Montgomery’s youth choir which was getting ready to leave on their choir tour. Their choir’s name is also One Voice.

Our group took the chance to sing for the women in the Pilot Truck stop near Mobile, AL today.

We finally arrived in New Orleans about 5:30 PM. Scott, our driver, dropped us off directly in front of St. Louis Cathedral at Jackson Square. Our group spent time in the French quarter looking around. We divided up into groups and ate dinner downtown. After having beignets at Café Du monde (Rick Roe prefers Krispy Kreme, so he ate donuts.) We walked across the street and looked out over the Mississippi River and watched traffic move up and down the river. We arrived back at the hotel about 8:30 PM. Bryan Pickler led our group devotion tonight. We distributed our Positive Notes and retired, exhausted, to our rooms. We all are praying for a good worship service tomorrow morning at first Baptist Church, Chalmette, LA.
